Join us for an Old Time—Down Home Newfoundland Tour from St. Anthony’s to St. John’s. You will experience nothing like it – the unique culture and hospitality of these wonderful people and the scenery & wildlife are amazing!
Wednesday June 24: Welcome aboard today as we begin our 13 Days of adventure & excitement as we make our way towards Newfoundland. Making several stops today we will travel as far as Sydney where we will spend our 1st night away from home at the beautiful Hampton Inn. Once we check in we will enjoy a Group Dinner at the lovely Restaurant Kiju’s within walking distance of the Hotel (included).Later in the evening at the Hotel, we will enjoy a “Meet & Greet” with Cake, Tea & Coffee.
Thursday June 25: After a scrumptious breakfast at the hotel we will make our way to the Ferry Terminal where we will board for the 6 hour crossing to Port Aux Basques.
Once we have boarded you can enjoy onboard entertainment, watch movies, enjoy some fresh air on deck & maybe even do some whale watching as we get closer to the Island. Please make sure you have supper on board prior to debarking as we will have a 3 hour drive to Corner Brook where we will overnight before beginning our awesome journey across Newfoundland.
Friday June 26: This morning after breakfast and a good night’s rest we will continue our journey by heading up the Northern Peninsula via Viking Trail passing through the beautiful Gros Morne National Park with valleys, spectacular fjords, mountains and stunning scenery. While on our way we will first stop at the Gros Morne Visitor Centre where you will enjoy a short video presentation which will enlighten you with the facts & history of the area. We will then continue to Norris Point to see the Table Rocks a most different rock formation which makes it a UNESCO World Heritage Site – layers of Rock formed due to the glaciers. We will then drive through the quaint Fishing Village of Rocky Harbour & then unto to visit the Lobster Cove Lighthouse.
As the morning comes to an end we will travel a short distance for lunch at the Shallow Bay Restaurant in Cow Head (included).
Following a delicious lunch we will continue our journey up the Northern Peninsula to our final destination in St. Anthony where we will make our home for the next 2 night’s (keep your eyes open for Moose along the way). Supper will be on your own this evening.
Saturday June 27: After breakfast today we will visit the Town of St. Anthony, home of Dr. Wilfred Grenfell, a missionary Doctor who founded cottage hospitals throughout the Province. We will take time to visit the Historic Properties which include the Museum, Hospital & Home and you will marvel at the accomplishments of Dr. Wilfred Grenfell. We will also take time to visit the Light House and Craft Store located near the beautiful Harbour. Let’s hope Mother Nature co-operates and provides us with some stunning iceberg formations.
As the morning comes to an end we will stop for Lunch (included) accompanied with some local Newfoundland Music, before heading to the most Northern tip of NL to visit the Statue of Leif Erickson who landed there over 1000 years ago and thus the Viking Settlement was born. We will step back in time as we venture out to visit the Norstead Village, a Living History Site. Tonight, we will join the “Vikings” for a Feast & Entertainment!!! (included) Sure to be a blast!!
Sunday June 28: Today after breakfast we head back down the beautiful scenic coast retracing our footsteps and keeping our eyes open for Moose.
After we travel a short distance we will make our 1st stop for the day in Port au Choix referred to as the “Fishing Capital of Newfoundland” People have been making a living from the sea in this area for over 5000 years.
It is known as the French Shore and we will learn more about the history here as we visit the French Rooms Cultural Centre. We will also enjoy watching how they cooked their bread in the outdoor ovens and of course get to sample the freshly baked bread topped with local jams. Yum! Yum! We will then travel a short distance to visit the National Historic Site in Port aux Choix. where you will learn more about the early days of the French Culture and fishing in this area.
As the morning comes to an end we will stop for lunch (included) nearby before leaving Port aux Choix & the Great Northern Peninsula. We will then continue our journey down the Viking Trail & overnight in Deer Lake. I have arranged a Group Dinner included for you tonight at the Hotel.
Monday June 29: After a restful night and delicious breakfast, today we will travel east across the province stopping in Gander for Lunch (on your own) followed by a stop at the Silent Witness Memorial.
We will then continue our journey across the province through Terra Nova National Park where we will make a stop at the Visitor Centre for a film & aquarium touch tank before arriving in Clarenville to overnight at the Quality Inn. I have arranged a delicious Dinner this evening followed with some good old Newfoundland musical entertainment. Enjoy!!
Tuesday June 30: After another good night’s sleep and breakfast at the Hotel you are in for a real treat so get your dancing shoes ready because tonight we will have an old-fashion Newfoundland Kitchen Party complete with a wonderful Buffett of Newfoundland dishes, dancing and of course you will all become “Honorary Newfoundlander’s”.
But first of all we will welcome onboard a local Tour Guide who will enlighten us as we explore and visit the beautiful Town of Trinity with a little time for shopping and lunch (on your own). In the afternoon we will travel to the Town of Bonavista where John Cabot landed in 1497 and of course visit the famous Light House and maybe see some puffins!!
As our fun filled day comes to an end we will overnight in Clarenville at the Restland Motel.
Wednesday July 1: “HAPPY CANADA DAY EVERYONE” This morning after breakfast we will depart for St. John’s, the Province’s Capital City where we will make our home for the next 2 nights at the Beautiful Delta Hotel. Upon arrival I will have an Itinerary of events for the Canada Day Celebrations for you to enjoy today!!
You will have ample free time to explore this awesome City throughout your stay. I will have a list of all the great Café’s, Restaurants, shopping etc. for you, as your Hotel is situated in downtown St. John’s overlooking the Harbour. Also, for those interested in going on a Boat Tour to see Icebergs, Whales & Sea Birds “Iceberg Quest Ocean Tours” is available & within walking distance. I have the information available for you. Enjoy your time here!!
Thursday July 2: This morning after breakfast, we will welcome aboard a local guide who will explore this great City of St. Johns with us visiting Signal Hill, Cabot Tower, Quidi Vidi Fishing Village, Government House, Roman Catholic Basilica, and many other historic sites throughout the city. We will also visit Cape Spear National Park, the most easterly point of land in North America. This park offers spectacular coastal scenery as well as WW 2-gun emplacements and the oldest lighthouse in Newfoundland.
Returning to the Hotel early afternoon you will have time to enjoy your last evening in beautiful Old St. Johns. Enjoy!!
Friday July 3: After a delicious breakfast at the Hotel we will be on our way for another exciting day as we journey back across the Province towards Gander where we will be stopping for lunch (on your own). Early afternoon we will welcome onboard a local Tour Guide who will enlighten us with stories and history of the area. Sit back and enjoy the beautiful scenery with Tickle’s, Runs & Inlets as we head for Twillingate, a.k.a. Iceberg Alley. After another full day we will drive a short distance where we will overnight in Gander. Supper will be on your own tonight. Restaurant located in the Hotel.
Saturday July 4: This morning after breakfast we will first visit the North Atlantic Aviation Museum which is dedicated to preserving and presenting the story of Gander’s role in the development of transatlantic flight. In 2001 the Town of a Gander became well known for playing an integral role in world aviation in the hours immediately following the September 11 attacks. More flights landed at the Gander International Airport than any other Canadian airport except Halifax.
We will then make our way back to Corner Brook with a lunch stop along the way. If time allows, we will do a tour of Corner Brook prior to checking into the Hotel.
Tonight, I have arranged a Farewell Dinner at the Hotel. (Included)
Sunday July 5: Breakfast this morning will be at 6:30 AM and departure at 7:30 AM as we will need to be at the Ferry Terminal in Port Aux Basques (9:45 AM) 2 hours prior to the 11:45 AM Crossing. Once we board, we will make ourselves at home for the 6-hour Crossing. You may want to have supper onboard prior to debarking or enjoy a later supper, at the Restaurant connected to the hotel in Sydney. Once we debark will travel a short distance to Sydney where we will make our last night’s stay at the Hampton Inn
Monday July 6: This morning after breakfast we will make our way back home stopping for lunch and shopping at the Masstown Market. We will arrive home late afternoon with wonderful memories of a fun filled Vacation on the beautiful Island of Newfoundland.
